Halvorsen & Reid

A legal and financial practice whose clients follow every matter, document and deadline from their phone.

  • Legal counsel
  • Financial advisory
  • Client app

What the client app actually does

Matter tracking instead of chasing

Every file we open for you appears with its current stage, the adviser handling it and what the matter is waiting on.

Documents stay inside the practice

Upload a contract, a statement or a signed form straight to your file. Nothing travels as an ordinary email attachment.

Appointments you book yourself

Open consultation slots with your adviser are visible in the app. Choose one and it goes directly into our diary.

A direct line to your adviser

Messages reach the person on your matter and sit with the file they relate to, so nothing has to be explained twice.

Invoices you can read and settle

Each bill itemises the work behind it and can be paid from the same screen you read it on.

Deadlines before they arrive

Filing dates, response windows and renewal dates reach you as reminders rather than as a letter after the fact.

How the practice works

Halvorsen & Reid is a partnership of legal and financial advisers acting for individuals and small businesses. Most of what we do is unglamorous and consequential: a company structured properly at the start, a contract read before it is signed, an estate administered without a family falling out, accounts filed on the day they are due.

Every enquiry is read by a partner, who decides whether it is a matter the practice should take and who should carry it. You are given one adviser and one point of contact, and the app simply makes that relationship visible between meetings — the file, the documents, the next date, the bill.

Where a matter has both a legal and a financial side — a business sale, a succession, a restructure — the same team coordinates both, so the advice does not arrive contradicting itself.

In clients' words

★★★★★
I could see which stage the sale had reached without ringing to ask. When something needed signing it was waiting in the app, with a note explaining why.

★★★★★
They set the company up and then kept the contracts tidy. Messages go to the same adviser every time, which is the part I did not expect to value as much as I do.
Tomas
★★★★☆
The invoices itemise the work, so I knew what I was paying for. I still prefer to talk things through in person, and that has never been a problem here.

Questions we are asked before the first meeting

Do I need to be a client already to use the app?

The app is for clients of the practice. If you are enquiring for the first time, start with a consultation; access is set up once we are formally engaged on a matter.

Who can see the documents I upload?

The advisers working on your matter and the staff supporting them. Documents are held with your file in the practice's systems rather than passed around as email attachments.

Can I still deal with you by phone and by letter?

Yes. The app is an additional way to reach us, not a replacement for either. Clients who prefer paper correspondence and scheduled calls are looked after exactly as before.

What happens at a first consultation?

We listen to the position, say plainly whether it is a matter this practice should take, and set out the likely steps, the timescales and the basis of our fees in writing before anything begins.

Can one firm handle both the legal and the financial side?

Often, and that is the point of a combined practice. Where a matter touches both — a business sale, an estate, a restructure — the same team coordinates them.

Tell us briefly what the matter is. You do not need to send documents yet.

  • A partner reads every enquiry and decides who should answer it.
  • We reply saying whether this is a matter we can take, and who would handle it.
  • Scope and the basis of fees are put in writing before any work begins.
